The Gift and Challenge of Being Human

Why We Often Settle for Less Than We Were Created to Be...

One of the things that separates human beings from the rest of creation is that we are not governed by instinct alone. Animals live largely by instinct. They seek food, safety, shelter, and the opportunity to reproduce. Human beings possess those same instincts, but we have been given something more: consciousness, self-awareness, imagination, moral reasoning, and free will.

This is one of God's greatest gifts.

We can step back and examine our lives. We can ask questions about meaning, purpose, truth, beauty, and love. We can choose courage over fear, forgiveness over resentment, generosity over selfishness, and faith over despair. We can become aware of our thoughts and emotions rather than simply being controlled by them.

Yet this gift comes with a challenge.

Our instincts are powerful. They were given to help us survive, but they were never meant to rule us. Fear can become anxiety. Self-protection can become selfishness. Desire can become greed. The need for approval can become an addiction to the opinions of others. Without realizing it, we can spend our lives serving instincts that were meant to serve us.

This is the ancient battle described throughout Scripture—the struggle between our higher calling and our lower impulses, between the image of God within us and the forces that pull us away from it. The battle of good and evil is not merely something "out there" in the world. It is also a struggle within every human heart.

The tragedy is not that we are imperfect. The tragedy is that we often settle for less than what God created us to become.

We settle for comfort when we were created for growth. We settle for certainty when we were created for faith. We settle for approval when we were created for love. We settle for success when we were created for transformation.

The spiritual journey is not about escaping our humanity. It is about redeeming it. It is about aligning our instincts, desires, thoughts, and actions with the deeper truth of who we are.

This is the invitation of The Soulprint Code: to awaken, to become conscious of the forces that shape us, and to live from the image of God within us rather than from the fears that limit us.

We were created for more. The journey of becoming fully human is the journey of becoming who we were meant to be all along.
